The mobile financial service Nagad of the Postal Department has started distributing Eid gifts of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to 14.96 lakh families who lost their jobs in various occupations due to the ongoing coronavirus situation.
Each family listed under the GTP system is getting assistance at 2,500 taka, which will be distributed before Eid by one of the country's top mobile financial service operators, 'Nagad'.
Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today inaugurated the program from her official residence Ganobhaban by distributing Eid gifts to 15 poor families in Bhola, Chittagong and Joypurhat districts.
Beneficiaries including Deputy Commissioners of their respective districts took part in the program organized through video conferencing. The function was conducted by Hon'ble Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister (Prime Minister's Office) Ahmed Kaikaus from Ganobhaban. Others were present at the time.
Apart from Nagad, the Hon'ble Prime Minister is giving Eid gifts to about 33 lakh 39 thousand families through two more mobile financial services companies.
In this phase, the Prime Minister's Eid gifts will be distributed to 45% of the total beneficiary families through Nagad. One of the remaining two operators will distribute 31.56 per cent and the other company will distribute the rest.
On the first day, Eid gifts of Hon'ble Prime Minister have been distributed to about 11,000 beneficiaries.
Beneficiaries do not incur any additional cost in case of cashout of this government assistance. The government will pay 15 rupees for the total cashout cost, the rest will be borne by Nagad. Each of the beneficiaries will get a total of Tk 36.5 per thousand as a cash-out non-app cashout rate of Tk 14.94 per thousand. As a result, a total of 2,536 taka will be deposited in everyone's Nagad wallet, which he can use for any purpose without cashing out.
Regarding the distribution of PM's Eid gifts through mobile wallets, Tanvir A Mishuk, Managing Director, Nagad, said, Enterprising This is the foresight of our Hon'ble Prime Minister. Moreover, due to his increased interest in digital services, poor and disadvantaged people are now able to get government grants on their mobile phones at home.
Tanvir A Mishuk further said, "I thank the Prime Minister for trusting in the service of 'Nagad' and this time as in the past, he has given the responsibility of distributing the largest part of his Eid gift to 'Nagad'. We promise that government assistance will reach all the beneficiaries ahead of schedule as per the list given by the government with the utmost transparency in compliance with all the rules. "Nagad" always conducts all activities starting from opening customer accounts in accordance with the rules of Bangladesh Bank, which will continue in this case as well. "
Earlier last year, he also took initiative to provide financial assistance to 5 million families who lost their jobs due to Kovid before Eid. There, Nagad was tasked with delivering Eid gifts to 1.7 million families.
