Huawei, the maker of information technology (ICT) products, has set a record for the highest number of patents last year. Through this, the company has become one of the patent holders in the world, leaving behind all the existing competitors.
Huawei recently published this information in a new white paper on innovation and intellectual property at the Innovation and IP Prospects in 2021 forum held at the company's Shenzhen headquarters. Huawei said in a press release.
Ignoring all rumors and pressures, Huawei has continued to invest in innovation and its efforts, the statement said. As a result, at the end of last year, there were more than 100,000 active patents in more than 40,000 patent families worldwide, compared to Huawei's figure of just over 75,000 at the end of 2019. This is also the highest annual growth of the organization in terms of patent ownership.
China's top patent holder owns patents in various fields, including Huawei Telecom equipment, especially FiveG technology, video technology, Wi-Fi, computing, and artificial intelligence. "Innovation has been at the heart of Huawei's business since its inception," said Jason Ding, head of Huawei's intellectual property rights division. Today's success is the result of innovation and Huawei's long-term investment in R&D. "
Huawei filed its first patent application in China in 1995 and in the United States in 1999. In 2006, the World Intellectual Property Organization ranked Huawei first in terms of the number of patent applications. In 2019, Huawei ranked second in Europe in terms of the number of patents approved.
According to various reports, Huawei was at the top of the patent application in the World Intellectual Property Organization. Even other top technology giants were behind it. In 2020, Huawei applied for 5,484 patents under the Wipo patent cooperation agreement. Huawei was followed by South Korea's Samsung (3,093), Japan's Mitsubishi Electric, South Korea's LG Electronics and the United States' Qualcomm.
